Experience Mother's Day as a Mother

Happy Mothers Day!

That phrase used to mean hardly anything to me. Of course, I always made sure to tell my Mother and grandmothers that I loved them but it just was another second-level holiday. Actually, Happy Birthday was the same way. But one hot day in August 2003, that changed for me. I became a mother the day my precious son was born. My husband and I agree that our son's birthday was one of the most important days in our lives. I never realized how much love a parent feels until I felt it for myself.

A friend sent me a Mother's Day poem. In that poem were a few lines that rang true to my heart:

  • I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
  • I never knew that I could love someone so much.
  • I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

I always wanted to be a Mother. I waited a long time to actually become one. I chose to build my education and career before Motherhood. It has made my life so very different yet so very wonderful. All the stress and joys make my life even more rich because I'm overflowing with love.

Thank you to my Mother for loving me with all your heart. Thank you to my son for allowing me to experience the joy of being a Mother.
